Visitor Info
The quintessential English seaside town of Margate has long history dating back to the Celts and Romans. Growing in size during the medieval period as a Saxon settlement it rapidly expanded in the 19th century when Margate became a popular vacation destination, with the arrival of the railway. The town’s elegant Regency architecture and famous pleasure gardens, Winter Gardens, were built during this time. Margate Museum, Hornby Visitor Centre, Turner Contemporary art gallery and the word famous vintage Dreamland amusement park are but a few of the places to visit and things to do.
