A Festival of Food and Drink

There's more food, drink and entertainment offerings coming to Dane John Gardens this September, as we celebrate a second year in Canterbury with a feast of food focused family fun. Kitchen theatre, children's entertainment, workshops, live music, street foods, liberal libation and competitions together with an eclectic food and craft market featuring local, national and international stalls.

Canterbury is cooking with good food and top quality entertainment all within the convivial setting of Dane John Gardens. Come and join us to enjoy the last of the summer wine as this great gathering delivers some serious foodie fun.

Please note: Artists are confirmed and contracted to appear on the event date, however, all line-ups are subject to change. If an act cancels their performance, or cannot make their agreed time slot, the even organiser will make every effort to find a suitable replacement to perform in their place. The replacement act will be chosen at the sole discretion of the event organiser and, if possible, communicated via social media.

 

Children’s Entertainment

  • Sandal Sticks Theatre – Grethe Jenson (Saturday and Sunday)
    • Adaption of classic fairytales and stories and maybe even some bespoke puppetry alongside the storytelling. Website
  • World of Magic – Chris Mayne (Saturday and Sunday)
    • Watch out for exciting magic on stilts and big bubbles as you walkaround. Website
  • Froggle Parties
    • Children’s entertainer on Saturday and Sunday; walkabout and designated shows, with a variety of the following, comedy magic, puppet shows, bubbles and touchable bubbles (bubbles that don’t pop when you touch them), rocket balloons, balloon modelling, music and games. Website
  • Suzan Ruben-Alderton – Fairy in a Pop Can
    • Suzan is an author who has written her own book, with proceeds going to charity. If you are lucky enough you will hear the author read her story for you.
  • Children’s Rides
    • A selection of children’s rides for our younger visitors to enjoy.
  • Face Painting
    • Creative face painting for all on Saturday and Sunday. Website

Cooking Stage

The Cooking Stage will be returning to Canterbury this year on Saturday, where compere; Damian Caudwell will be introducing chefs who will be demonstrating some interesting dishes from around the world.  These include,

Other Event Features

  • Foraging in Dane John Gardens – take a tour with Amy Hitchcock to discover so tasty wild growing food growing in the Gardens.
    • Friday afternoon – 2 hours foraging walk
    • Sunday, Amy will be at the event all day where you will have the opportunity to ask questions.  There will be shorter walks at 11am, 1pm and 3pm
