Street Foods, bars of distinction, alfresco dining, live music, children’s entertainment all served up with big helpings of humour, colour and character.

As well as a cathedral, a canal, gardens, local wetlands and harbour, ancient buildings and historic landmarks, the town has many attractions, with art galleries, theatres, poetry and jazz events. For the budding astronomer there is the South Downs Planetarium & Science Centre and for those who just want to shop the town has plenty of choice, from departments stores to the quaint and eclectic.
Its history goes back beyond Roman times, but it is with the Roman invasion that the town grew – although it didn’t actually exist as as Chichester until the 12th century when it was annexed by the Normans. A strategic location for defence and commerce meant it has been fought over many times – with various walls and battlements being built, including a castle (long ago demolished) there is history to be seen all around the town.
